Itzy Bitzy Shoes & Accessories

Those big flowers, knit headbands and giant bows. I laughed whenever I saw them on some little baby's head. Then Itzy Bitzy sent me a box of those very same bows, headbands and giant flowers for my own daughter's head and I fell in love.

I know. I can't quite believe it myself but it is hard to resist a baby with a big ol' pink flower on her head, or a yellow one, or purple or blue. We seem to have them all now. And not just for the baby either. Headbands, barrettes and shoes by Itzy Bitzy abound in our house now, decorating all three of my girls almost every day. When we are out and about or just playing in our neighborhood people stop me and squeal or express delight in how cute and adorable these accessories are on my kids. It's true. The entire Itzy Bitzy line of accessories is diverse and goes with anything.

y favorite is the frayed flower clips on my oldest daughter. She sports them in yellow or small purple checks quite often, while my two year old adores the feathery soft marabou clip. All three girls wear the ribbon and flower clips, the headbands and wraps too. It is the first time that they willingly choose things for their hair and get excited about them. What I like about them is how they stay put and can be used in a variety of ways. I can attach them just to their hair, on a band, hat or elastic.

The Itzy Bitzy shoes are pretty swell too. They have flip flops, squeaky shoes for boys and girls, sandals and mary jane style shoes. All of them come in many colors and styles and each is well made. Celebrity kids all over wear Itzy Bitzy shoes, from Coco Arquette and Seraphine Affleck and many others. It's form, function and style all in one little shoe.

Itzy Bitzy shoes and accessories were created by mom, Michelle Ruesch. After having twins Michelle wanted shoes that helped her not just keep tabs on her kids roaming but also assisted them in heel to toe walking. When kids step right the shoes squeak. They love it and continue to get the squeaking going. Soon they are walking and then running! Itzy Bitzy shoes and accessories donates a portion of their proceeds to The Treacher Collins Connection and Children's Craniofacial Association. It's a cause Michelle holds close to her own heart as one of her own daughters was born with Treacher Collins.

Itzy Bitzy shoes are available online.

Fun Find- Goody Girls Colour Collection

Just in time for the hot summer months we received a batch of Goody's latest hair accessories from their Colour Collection.  From headbands to hairbands, barrettes, bobby pins and elastics they were all done in light beige and brown colors perfect for all the blond heads we have in our home.

Goody believes that we all have a unique hair color and that it should be celebrated, not the elastics and pins to hold it all in place.  I love my hairbands (ouchless!) in light beige for everyday wear.  They hold my hair back well and don't show that much.  The barrettes and pins work great in my hair and my daughter's as well.  It really is a great and FUN FIND.  Goody procuts are available at Target, Drugstore.com and many other retailers.

Goody Expanded ColourCollection Line

Secure hold. Chic style. That is what Goody hair accessories is all about.

I've always been a fan of Goody hair accessories since I was a little girl and I use their mini Soft Touch barrettes on my daughter's ultra-fine hair almost every day. They are the only ones that work. I tested the newest headwraps from Goody's StayPut Hold ColourCollection and found that not only did it match my hair color quite well but they worked great too. When I browsed the collection online I was amazed at how much Goody has to offer for both blonds, brunettes, red heads and women with black hair. Shades include onyx, sable, truffle, beach, butterscotch, cinnamon and more. I loved how there are many dimensions to the bands as well. They blend in with your hair's natural or salon selected high lights and low lights.

I can now wear this hair wrap to the gym or out during the day creating a style all my own without showing a glaring black band line that doesn't match my hair. The ColourCollection has expanded too. From reversible elastics, contour clips, claw clips and metallic finish bobby pins Goody has thought of everything. Each piece is colored a natural hue and with an affordable price. Ranging from $2.99 to 3.99 you cannot beat this super stylish value that will only enhance your own natural beauty.

I'm addicted to my Goody ColourCollection headwrap because it looks great and it really stays put. I cannot wait to try out the other items in the collection. To purchase all Goody products visit here.

PBN- Maiden America- No-Slip Barrettes

Oh the whispies. I had them as a child. That almost baldhead with the slipperiest hair you can possibly imagine. Barrettes did not stay put and my morning 'do' was the bane of both my mother’s and my existence. Now, my daughter has a case of the whispies. The only barrettes that even come close to staying put were some cheap metal ones from the grocery store. Cute they are not. Serviceable is all we had until now. PBN offered me the chance to review Maiden America barrettes and I jumped on it.

Known for their non-slip barrettes (patent-pending), their non-toxic glue and other safe/good business practices Maiden America is a mom-owned and operated company that not only cares about its customers but also the quality of their product. While we are so used to the tiny metal no-frills barrettes around here we quickly acclimated ourselves to the ribbons, bows and flowers of these adorable barrettes. A particular favorite were the Daisyburst and Ladybug versions. My daughter asked to wear, “lay-deee bug” almost every day for the past few weeks. These barrettes really do work too. They do not slip no matter what amount of hair I place in them and they do not pull or weigh down in a painful way. I have used them to place over a ponytail for a more polished look as well as in traditional barrette format. My daughter enjoys wearing them and she looks super cute too!

These barrettes come in a variety of styles from dressed-up with Swarovski crystals to more nature-oriented pieces. They make an excellent gift for any little girl and would work well for weddings and parties. I have absolutely no complaints about this product. The barrettes are made well, they work, they arrived quickly and the price is competitive to what you find in stores around my area. When one of my choices was not available I was contacted by email within minutes of placing my order and promptly asked how I wanted to handle the situation instead of simply being told it was on backorder or no longer available. I could not be happier with my whole Maiden America experience.

Belong by Oakley

They're sleek, stylish and a bit bigger than what I normally wear but I do love that Oakley sent me some of their new designs for sunglasses. Typically, I can be found in my classic brown Jackie O square shades. I wear them all year round. I am never without my sunglasses. I am very picky about the lens tint, size, comfort and looks (call it my four point system if you will). If I loose a pair of sunglasses or break them it is going to be hard for me to replace them. Price is not an issue as I wear them all year round even on partly cloudy days. I've worn cheap $9 pairs and upwards of $200 and it is all based on the above listed needs being met. Would the Oakley's Belong style fit the bill? I was highly suspicious.

Inspired by Oakley women who live by their own rules, BELONG™ writes its own stylebook. Sculptural metal detailing adds a touch of magnificence without being showy, and smooth contours of lightweight acetate keep it anchored in feminine charm. A graceful silhouette highlights a perfect Three-Point Fit that gives comfort an entirely new definition.

I tried two pairs of the Belong style ($160), the Caramel and the Turquoise. While both are the same I instantly took a liking to the turquoise trim inside one pair of glasses. The added flash just appealed to me. It was as if I had a little secret and not just hidden behind the lightly tinted lenses. The Belongs are comfortable to wear and fit very well. I have a small head and they sit on my nose lightly and do not slip down its bridge. They hug my face but don't appear too big. When I shake my head they don't fall off either. The lens tint (22% light transmission) nicely blocks out the suns UV rays and hides the delicate tissue around my eyes from obtaining further sun damage. I can definitely get behind that.

While the price range of $160-170 is steep the Oakley Belong sunglasses are worth their weight in today's slow dollar. They fit incredibly well, are of a high quality in construction and design plus they are available for prescription lenses too. You'll look good wearing them as well, which is always an added bonus.

The Mi-bag- No flowery title needed.

Stylish, eco-friendly and lightweight, need I say more? Yes, I can say a lot more about ID-A Designs Mi-bag. The Mi-bag, which comes in four designs (zebra, cat, elephant and birds), is one of the best products I have reviewed to date. This compact little bag stores easily in my purse or suitcase and then expands to W 18" x H 23" x D 7" from a pocket that is only W 6" x H 7". You can see how it works here. It is not only practical and cute but it is also very durable. The 100% nylon rip-stop bag holds up to 22 lbs. It is light as a feather and folds up so nicely you can take it anywhere.

I put the Mi-bag ($24) to the test the first day I had it by loading it up with dry cleaning. I fit one men’s suit jacket and pants, a dress, four men’s dress shirts, one woman’s blouse, a sweater and a pair of dress pants for men into the bag with no problem. Once I unloaded it, I folded it quickly into its pocket and dropped it into my purse. It was that simple. It is that easy! The look on the dry cleaners face was priceless. Since then I take it with me everywhere I go. I use it at Target, the library and on trips to carry additional purchases. The Mi-bag has become a new appendage for me. It is always on my person because it is so convenient and easy to use. The double insulated straps are comfortable on my shoulders and I love the animal designs. I feel instantly stylish when I break out this bag and tote it around even if it is filled with toddler supplies like diapers, wipes and a sippy cup.

This bag is very versatile and fun to use. Everywhere I go with it people comment on the design and practicality. I recently received another bag very similar to the Mi-bag that starts out small and expands, is made of 100% nylon and can be tucked away easily. Except that it isn't as easy. It doesn't roll like the Mi-bags folds and quite honestly, it not as user-friendly all around or as nice looking. I wouldn't trade my Mi-bag for anything.

When designer Naoko Shibata founded ID-A Designs she wanted to create something usable and life improving. Her eye for aesthetics and quality shows in every detail of the Mi-bag right down to the satin piping. The Mi-bag is fashion but is also a wonderful balance of form and function.

I'm giving away two Mi-bags today to two lucky readers! Be the first to email me (veamason AT gmail DOT com) and I'll send a bag your way!

Congratulations to Stephanie and Andrea our Mi-bag winners!!

PakNaks-Imaginative, Squishy Fun!

PakNak. PakNak. PakNak. Say it a lot! It’s fun. They are fun! OK, so what is a PakNak? They are cute, colorful artwork that is interchangeable, fun, and personalized. PakNaks turn plain, ordinary backpacks and bags into works of art.

Created by two moms and more these 3D Naks ($3.99) are weatherproof, flexible, self-adhesive, easy to use and really spark a kid’s imagination. Geared for kids ages four and up Naks are the ultimate and latest in personalized accessories. Each Nak comes complete with a name and trading card. Isaac, the turtle, scored big in my house. He likes pole vaulting and his best friend is Ted the Head. The strong Velcro backing makes it easy to change your Nak whenever the mood strikes you. You can trade them, give them as gifts or in goodie bags or keep them all to yourself. There are over thirty types to choose.

When I first took the Naks out of the package, my daughter’s eyes lit up and she immediately had to inspect them and get a closer look. We looked over the trading cards, peeled off the backings and began to stick the likes of Pax, Martin and Sprinkles all over her various bags. I think she likes how easy it is to switch the Naks around and put new designs on her bags the most. The squishiness of the Naks is a big draw for her too. These soft, rubbery Naks come in so many varieties that any kid will love them and they would make great party favors. There are sports oriented ones, critters and crawlies and so many more. The Yummies for Tummies are especially cute. Naks are also great for making hats more fun, spicing up those drab car seat straps and are really just an incredibly cool idea. Your kid will love creating new looks with their Naks.

To order PakNaks visit the website today! Two lucky MPR readers will win a set of five PakNaks! The first two people to email me (veamason AT gmail DOT com) with the answer to the question below win! As an added bonus, PakNaks is giving all MPR readers 10% off their orders from now until April 17. Just click here!

Big Bellies Bibs

What's backed in nylon and comes in over 25 different patterns? Big Bellies, bibs for toddlers and infants of course! Located in Maple Glen, Pennsylvania, Big Bellies features four types of bibs- Classic, Teethers, Starters and a special needs bib called 'The Pocket'. These bibs were created by a new mom in 1991 and the company is now owned by Lisa and Rob Quinn, a couple who used the bibs on their own kids. Made in the USA and proud participant in the Co-op America, which seeks economic action for a just planet, Big Bellies creates colorful nylon backed bibs for every stage of your child's life.

I received the 'Bugs' toddler bib ($10) and that very night my daughter wanted to use only that bib for her meals. She loved the bright colors of the bib and it fit her incredibly well. The nylon back prevents leaks and foods or liquids from soaking her clothes. The Velcro has proved after many washes to not bunch or wear and fall off. I've had many bibs where the Velcro just comes off after a few uses and I have to toss the bib. The toddler bibs measure about 10" across and 8.5" long (from neck) and it can accommodate a 13" neck. The pocket in front catches many drips and dribbles of food and is a source of fascination to my child as well. She loves to scoop up pieces and "re-use" them. This bib does not make that annoying crinkling noise that drives my child mad like other bibs that have a plastic back. The Big Bellies bib with its nylon backing is quiet and that makes me happy.

I like this bib a whole lot. It lasts not only in fit and wear but the 100% cotton front colors haven't bled or faded. It is a great size for toddlers (my daughter is tall for her age) and really keeps them clean. I also love the premise behind the company. Big Bellies seeks only to make a useful, quality product. One that the Quinn's and their customers can rely on and trust. Proceeds from the bibs go to Second Harvest Food bank and the company participates in Moms on the Move. Big Bellies bibs make great gifts, is easy on the wallet and is one quality product.

To purchase any one of the Big Bellies bibs click here. There is free shipping for anyone who buys three or more bibs too! Plus type in Feb5Off for an additional $5 off any order of $40 or more with the free shipping!

Fun Find- Silly Wagon

From baby to toddler to big kid clothes, charming bags by Oilily for Moms to jewelry and decor for your kids room, Silly Wagon is the place to go for inspired, fun and downright unique or boutique type gifts for yourself, your friends and family.

Recently, I purchased a few adorable items for a baby shower gift from Silly Wagon. I had my pick of clothes by Zutano or something cheeky and cute for the Mom-to-be. Once I had finally made my decision and placed my order I was pleased to not only receive it promptly but to find a personally written note inside thanking me for my business. Not only that, but there was a coloring sheet and small package of crayons with a sticker included. That was a particularly nice and sweet touch. It warmed my heart and I will definetly be doing business with Silly Wagon again.

If you are looking for a gift for you or a friend or a child then keep Silly Wagon in mind. They have GREAT sales and the customer service cannot be beat! You can even create a wishlist for others to see. It's truly a wonderfully creative website chocked full of unique and high quality items.

*I'm giving away two of Maggie and the Ferocious Beasts newest DVDs, 'Recipes for Trouble' and 'Rain Showers and Spring Flowers' to the first person who emails me. veamason at gmail dot com. Come and get 'em!

YumYum! by TDM Design

What the heck is a YumYum you ask? Why it is a "buttery blissful" cashmere neck warmer! TDM Design, based out of Potomac, MD, has come up with a wonderfully soft and practical piece to get you through this cold winter season. It is what I am using this winter because it is comfortable and I love it.

One of the things I like the most about the YumYum ($42), besides how chic it is, is that there is no more bulky scarf factor. This incredibly soft piece of cashmere snaps easily in two places and can be worn folded in half or full. When I am done with it, I just store it in my purse where it folds neatly and takes up virtually no room. It is convenient and gorgeous looking. Did I mention it is also ridiculously luxe and lush? It is. The YumYum is a great alternative for scarves for kids as there are no long pieces to be tangled in and the softness appeals to children right away. TDM has a brilliant idea right there. The bright and bold colors are fantastic too. I have Biking Red and it goes with everything.

TDM Design is a woman-based local company in the DC Metro area. The YumYums are handmade by women in Nepal working in the cottage industries. TDM visits the area annually. They know that through them, the Nepalese are able to manage their funds, their lives, and that of their family’s lives better. TDM has created a fund for them and a portion of all the proceeds from TDM’s sales benefits the health care and education of these villages in Nepal. This is a major plus in my book.

Every time I put on my YumYum I do not think trendy, I think art. These hand woven pieces are not just beautiful to look at but they are complimentary to your face, keep you warm and are lovely to wear. TDM Design offers a variety of colors, two YumYum sizes to choose from and other great pieces such as the Grande Scarf, the silk Masino Dues and the magnificent throws and baby blankets. To see all the TDM Design products click here.

Company Kids - Style and Flair for your Child

This time of year we are all hunkering down and in hibernation mode. What could be better than to have Company Kids send me two of their ultra warm products to try out. Through six generations the Company Store and Company Kids has aimed to keep themselves sheltered from the cold Wisconsin winters. They know what they are talking about when they utter the words, "warm and toasty".

First up is a pink fleece robe for girls. This soft robe ($39) is great for cold mornings, lounging and just coming out of the tub. I love the detailing on this piece of clothing and the hood. I think all kids robes should come with hoods precisely for that after bath time frame when their little heads are still wet and they need that extra warmth. The cuffs, trim and lining of the hood are all done in a different fabric, like leopard print, and each robe can be monogrammed. It will make any child feel special. Plus it is a nice quality made piece. It washes well, doesn't shrink and looks great!

The applique on all Company Kids robes is gorgeous! There are different designs for holidays and seasons as well as your everyday train, plane or shark robe. Your kid will have a ball picking out the style they want all for themselves. The price isn't too bad either and this robe fits well enough that it will be around for a while.

Next up is the Slumber bag. This is a fun gift ($69) for a child who is beginning to have friends stay over and go on sleepovers themselves. The one I received has a cloud theme to it and is a beautiful sky blue color with fluffy white fur on it. My daughter loves to snuggle into it and she is only two! The bags can be monogrammed and they are three dimensional. Company Kids has created a different sort of sleeping bag for your child by not only giving the bag a theme but also an outer design. The removable and plush head pillow is part of the theme which I think is so much fun. The bags and the pillows are completely washable and can be separated from one another making it extremely convenient too. It is recommended for ages three and up.

Company Kids as well as the Company Store has beautiful, fun, quality bedding in a variety of designs and styles that is sure to fit your needs. I am thinking of using them when we graduate our daughter to her 'big girl' room in the next year. The simple styles are exactly what I'm looking for and the prices are reasonable. For more Company Kids or Company Store items please click here.

Happy New Year!

It's a new year and I've decided that there will be some new additions to Mummy's Product Reviews this year. In addition to the regularly featured PBN reviews, Friday Fun Finds and the weekly product reviews, I'll be conducting compare and contrasts of products. Mummy will debunk myths regarding even more products, hopefully incorporate an abundance of giveaways (ahem! companies! Readers like free stuff!!) into the reviews and add more coupons.

I'll even post about books, movies, and current trends (watermelon!) throughout the year so check back often for exciting new ideas and more!

If you have questions regarding certain products or how I conduct reviews please feel free to contact me and I will see what I can do. I'm here to help you find the very best of what is new, fresh, hot and well... what works and won't waste your money.

If you are a company that would like your product reviewed keep in mind that I veer towards green items, women and children's accessories, gift ideas, housewares and decor. I am open-minded but I like to actually review the product and not just post about it sight unseen. Giveaways to the readers work wonders on me as do posting ads on this site. So give me a call, email, or write!

It's a brand new year and there are loads of great products to be reviewed! I look forward to working with you, hearing from you and learning with you!

Happy 2008!

ying by Nankeen

Nankeen has done it again with their practical but stylish ying tote. The refreshing blue color on this bag depicts the ocean the bag is named for and it will fast become your go to bag. The ying is serious on style and all the while incredibly practical. The sturdy denim-like fabric, a signature in the Nankeen line, softens over time and washings. Its quality stands the test of time and the ying will prove itself one tough bag. It holds a secret too. It is not just a great looking tote. Tucked inside the deep plum lining it holds a separate padded laptop sleeve. The zippered sleeve is 16”w x 12”h x 1”d and holds most standard-sized laptops. My Dell has a 17-inch screen and is a bit on the thick side and I can just squeeze it in this bag. The durable double straps sit comfortably on my shoulders and are at a great length. I can easily retrieve items from the bag and the inner pockets. Everyone will be amazed at what you can fit into this great roomy bag. It has two zippered pockets and a top zipper closure and it is versatile and fun. I love how it is a darker pattern than other Nankeen bags too.

The ying ($145) is 100% Nankeen printed-cotton. It goes through the same age-old process of using the Asian art form to hand print the fabric. Nankeen beautifully combines contemporary looks with classic design will all its bags and the ying is no exception. What I love about Nankeen is that it is always of a high quality and quite unique. No two bags are the same. It is not your typical workbag or travel satchel either. I use it for lugging around kid stuff, weekend gear, my laptop and it brightens up a meeting or workday too. The ying like all the other Nankeen products (now featuring men’s accessories too!) is not only a great piece but a chic one too that your friends and even strangers will stop you on the street to ask you about. You have a truly remarkable item when you buy an Anne W. Page (designer) piece.

Now when you order a ying bag you can also get a chang belt ($30) thrown in free! In addition to that, shipping is free from now until December 31. Just tell them that ‘Mummy’ sent you to get that belt which goes beautifully with every pair of jeans and even khakis! It is 100% cotton and I wear mine all the time. It definitely completes an outfit, livens up your wardrobe and makes an excellent gift for that hard to buy for-have everything friend.

Da Bib Rocks!

Winner of the iParenting Media Award the Da Bib is the latest in non-toxic, lead-free products for your child. It is also one fashionable good-looking bib. I tried the Giggles version and here is what I found.

The super soft micro-terry cloth backing is incredibly absorbent and doesn’t shrink even a smidgen in the wash. It resists stains well with its microfiber material that feels simply luxurious to the touch. The 100% waterproof polyester fabric backing wipes clean so easily that I threw away our crinkly plastic bibs completely. The Da Bib covers my daughter’s shirt (even her shoulders!)and keeps her shirts fresh. It’s reversible too! There is even a hidden pouch that catches all the crumbs and flips out easily to empty it. It doesn't get any better than this when it comes to a bib.

Two things really stand out though that make Da Bib the best bib in our house. First, the “Scrunch Collar” which minimizes stains and spills because this entirely adjustable collar is not only soft and pliable around my child’s neck its rib knit design prevents any under the bib spills. This has always been the top way my daughter ruins her clothes. Each time we use the Da Bib we come out clean. The line of Velcro that fastens the bib on the side will grow with your child and Da Bib is larger than the average bib size. Second, this bib does not shrink. It is machine washable and even the dryer doesn’t mess with the nylon coated side or with its size. The seams haven’t bunched and the hour-glass shape of the Da Bib has not altered in any way.

Really, this is one great bib. I plan on sending one to all my friends who are new mothers. The Da Bib is eco-friendly and safe for babies and toddlers. The stylish pastel colors including the fun multi-colored Signature Stripe pattern make it an instant hit. Da Bib is available online here and by some select retailers. It sells for $12.95 which is well-worth the price. It earns a Mummy’s seal of approval as well as the grandmother’s seal of approval.
