P.B. Loco- Peanut Butter with Flair

Almost a year ago I did a nice review of P.B. Loco's "Adult Flavored" peanut butter. Go ahead, read it. I'll wait. When they asked me if I wanted to try out some of their new flavors I jumped on it. The ones we tried before were so fantastic!

I gathered up a group of my friends and as we all sat around eating chocolate fondue one evening we clanked our spoons together and decided to try two new P.B. Loco flavors, Caramel Chunk and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Here's what we found.

P.B. Loco's Caramel Chunk ($6.95 for 16 ounces) is a mixture of rich, creamy peanut butter combined with chunks of decadent caramel swirled in. This is a great combination! Who doesn't crave both these items at some point? The premium peanut butter that P.B. Loco is known for is right here. The caramel chunks too, yet somehow there is a distinct aftertaste that clouded our love for this flavor. I think if mixed with something else or applied to fruit, bread or a graham cracker it would be masked but eaten alone we were a bit taken aback.

The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ($6.95) fared a bit better. Upon opening the jar you could immediately smell the sweet combination of cookie dough, chocolate and peanut butter. Our mouths watered. We dug in and found that while there is a fair amount of chocolate to peanut butter to cookie dough ratio there was still a rather odd aftertaste. Again, applied to something or pared with another food it might be OK, but as a stand alone treat I would not suggest it. I thought perhaps it was my pregnancy altered taste buds working on both of these concoctions but my friends agreed. There is a very sweet aftertaste that alters the true flavor of these great combos.

I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with these two flavor combinations. All the other peanut butters I have tried with friends and family have been raving successes. It was surprising to find less than greatness with these latest two. I won't count P.B. Loco out though. They are serious about customer feedback and will work this out. The other flavors are great for cooking and the recipes they have online work well. Asian Curry for chicken satay anyone? That gets mad props still! So do the other sweet and salty mixes, even as stand alone treats. I would give P.B. Loco a fare chance and try for yourself and see.
