Little Green Star- Organic Cotton Shirts for Kids!

Kelley and Victoria are scientists, designers and friends. Between the two of them they have created a great little company called Little Green Star. Their company outfits your “little green star” with comfy and cute organic wear. The shirts for babies and toddlers are made from sweatshop free, 100% organic cotton and printed with non-toxic water-based ink. As Kelley and Victoria say, “When you do well in school, you get a gold star. When you do well for the environment, you get a green one!"

Based out of San Francisco, Little Green Star seeks to teach your child about the environment ,being aware of their surroundings and taking care of the world around them. Their adorable and funny organic cotton shirts promote green living and are super comfortable to wear. What I love about these shirts is not just the impact leaving message but that they are indeed made of organic cotton and water-based inks. Using organic cotton means no harsh and harmful chemicals, no bleaches and no dyes. While conventional cotton is the most pesticide dependent crop in the world, organic takes pesticides out of the equation. Water-based inks are PVC-free. PVC plastics are some of the most harmful plastics around. Many inks are based on this ingredient. They release toxins into the air when heated. I didn’t even know that until recently. So think about that when you are putting your inked up t-shirts in the dryer. No thanks! Water-based inks are also petroleum free. Do I need to go into how dependent the US is on this resource and how we need to cut back? I didn’t think so. Look into water-based inks. That’s all.

We all know that every little bit can make a difference especially when it comes to helping the environment. Whether you recycle, drive a hybrid car or bike to work it’s up to you. A Little Green Star goes a long way though. It makes a great gift for a baby shower or any baby or toddler you know. The holidays are coming up so think about this as a fun alternative instead of say, another plastic toy. Victoria and Kelley have also created a great blog with lots of information and further greening tips and resources that I highly suggest taking a look at. It’s fun and educational! Just what we are always looking for as parents am I right?
