RazorPit Review

When items such as the RazorPit filter into my inbox I have a tendency to look the other way. It seems gimmicky.  Then I go to my local Target to pick up some razor blades for myself and my husband and I feel like I need to take out a loan.  Hello, people at RazorPit?  I'm ready for my review now.

The RazorPit is a razor blade sharpener.  Plain and simple it works with all razor blades and can increase the use of a single blade up to 150 times.  Using friction technology (that stand has give to it like skin) it removes residue, hair, soap and skin from the blade letting you use the the blade a whole lot more.  I tested it out this weekend after realizing my razor needed to shave my leg three times in one spot to get a clean, close shave. 

To use the RazorPit you need only to apply your shave cream, gel or soap to the RazorPit's flat surface.  Run your razor forwards about 4-5 times.  Rinse both the RazorPit and razor clean and you are done. Pretty simple and fast.  It worked too!  I immediately took my razor and went down the front of my calf.  The whole line was smooth and clean with no need to retrace. I'm ridiculously happy I don't have to replace my blade again! I ran it through the RazorPit a few more times for good measure. My husband tested his out too and it seems that the more blades you have (Mach 3 Turbo) the less success you might have. His worked out but not as noticeably sharpened as my dual blade.

Reuseit Skoy Paper Towels & Earth Tote

Reuseit is a fantastic website that I love to shop on whenever I need to replace something in my house. For example, a few weeks ago my Cuisinart coffeemaker needed a new cup to hold the coffee grounds. The mesh had torn and was coming away from the plastic frame. Reuseit had a perfect fit replacement that can be used in my coffeemaker and many others. The Reuseit one is actually a better quality and a finer strainer than the company brand too.

Reuseit recently sent me some Skoy Paper Towel replacements ($4.95). These can be used to sop up a mess and for everyday cleaning. For a set of four in four colors (blue, green, yellow and natural) you can be wiping up messes and cleaning for a week.  One Skoy cloth replaces 15 paper towels, which is great for the environment.  When the Skoy Paper Towel replacement is dirty just toss it in the wash.  Made from 100% biodegradable wood pulp cellulose and natural cotton Skoy is non-toxic and chlorine free.  You can even clean it in your dishwasher, which I find to be easier and faster.  It's also dryer safe.  If you are trying to conserve paper towels, be more green or save money then the Skoy Paper Towel is a good product to buy from Reuseit.

We all have a variety of reusable bags in our homes these days.  Companies stick their logos on them and hand them out all the time.  The reuseit Earth Tote, Original ($9.95) is a notch above all those other reusable shopping bags.  For one, it is bigger and a nice tall rectangular shape.  It has sturdy handles and a very handy and deep front pocket that you can put lists, notes or other additional items in.  I love it!  

Reuseit is the perfect place to start when you are thinking of going green. It can help you eliminate waste like using plastic utensils, straws, plastic baggies, use-and-toss lunch containers and more.  I love browsing the site to figure out ways that save me money in the long run and the earth right now.

Walkers Apothecary Passion Fruit Exfoliating Cleanser

In a simple but pretty white and pink bottle Walkers Apothecary Passion Fruit Exfoliating Cleanser ($18) sits on my bathroom sink. It looks like summer to me and just the type of skincare item I would like to use during these warm months. When I'm sweating, outdoors and a bit more active than usual I find I need the lactic and glycol acids in this item to create cell turn over more than ever.

Free of sulfates this facial cleanser is light and great for use on your face and neck. Just a dime-sized amount is all you need to clean your face and neck area. After washing my face felt clean and refreshed. There was no burning or stinging, no redness. It's good for acne-prone skin and hyperpigmentation. The bottle I have was very small (travel size) and so I don't know if prolonged use would take care of any of the hyperpigmentation I have on my face. Many cleansers that boast glycol and lactic acids do help that after long term use. I liked the very subtle scent on this product and overall I have always found that Walkers Apothecary products are worth the money and a bit of an indulgence.

Fun Find-Vaska Detergent

I'm a proponent for green living.  Finding a laundry detergent that meets my needs on cleaning and being green is sometimes hard.  They either have a hefty price tag or just don't work well enough for my taste.  Vaska laundry detergent is a nice even-paced buy.  It's $9.99 for 48 ounces (about 32 loads) and it is available at Target and a few other stores nationwide.  Not tested on animals, hypoallergenic, safe for babies, color tested and biodegradable it is a good find. 

Does it clean well?  I think so.  I had a one time use sample so it is hard to gauge. It was scent-free and if you buy it straight from the Vaska website now you can get $1 OFF.  It is worth checking out and trying for yourself.

Systeme 41 Rejuvenating Masque

Systeme 41 skincare is new to me. I had not heard of it until I was contacted by the company to review their Rejuvenating Masque.  Free of parabens, gluten, never tested on animals and containing the most effective all-natural ingredients, my interest was peaked.

The Rejuvenating Masque ($29.95) exfoliates your skin while restoring radiance to it at the same time.  Through the use of Amazon white clay that cleans your pores and Olive Squalane to add moisture and suppleness, this masque can be used for a few minutes and up to twenty minutes.  Papaya enzymes work with natural Pomegranate to remove dead skin cells while the Probiotic Complex within Systeme 41 shields your skin from the harsh elements it sees and absorbs every day. 

I applied this masque one morning before I showered. I wet my face and scooped up a bit of it and applied it in circular motion all over.  You can wash it off right away if you use it as a face scrub. Leave it on a bit longer for the masque effect.  Right away I was hit by a medicinal scent that I think comes from the Amazon white clay.  I have used masques with this ingredient before and it is the same smell each time.  It dissipates after a few minutes and then I noticed a cooling, clean feel.  As I washed the exfoliating masque off in the shower I felt my smooth skin. It felt clean without being dried out or stripped which many of these exfoliating masques do to my skin.  It felt fresh and new.  There was a tiny bit of redness on my cheekbones where I scrubbed a bit too much but that was the only negative part to this product.  The next day my skin still felt soft and clearer.  This made in the USA, non-comedogenic product works!  I will definitely be using more of it and on a weekly basis.  The results are fast and noticeable.

Kiss My Face for Kids

Always on the lookout for natural, chemical-free products for myself and the kids I was pleased when Kiss My Face sent me a box loaded with a few of their kids line products- A Whale of a Soap, Self Foaming Shampoo & Body Wash and Self Foaming Hand Wash.

The Kiss My Face Self Foaming Hand Wash ($7.95) is already a favorite in our house. I buy it for their bathroom as it is very easy to pump out the soap in a puff of foam.  This is great for little ones just learning to wash their hands during potty training as well as older kids.  The soap is light and airy but cleans thoroughly and the wide pump fits their hands.  Both my two year-old and five year-old love it.  The Berry Smart scent also entices and they have a tendency to do a little too much hand washing at times. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

A Whale of a Soap ($7.95, two bars) is comprised of vegetable glycerin and comes in a white scentless version or orange u smart whales.  Each box contains two whale bars of soap that are also chemical free.  This soap is fun and the kids want to use it all the time.  Even when they just see the box they get excited for a chance to use a new whale in the tub or shower to play and clean up.  I like how it doesn't dry their skin and has moisturizing properties from palm kernels. 

Self Foaming Shampoo & Body Wash ($8.95) comes in scentless, orange u smart and berry smart scents.  It is another fun product from Kiss My Face for Kids.  My girls have a blast squeezing the bottle to get the foaming soap out and love piling up the suds on their kneecaps, heads, shoulders and tub while they clean themselves at bath time.  I wish it didn't go so fast though because at $8.95 a bottle it doesn't take long for this shampoo (tear-free!) to disappear and I am not fond of the price. 

Kiss My Face is a great company.  I am a huge fan of their shave cream and many of their other products for the whole family.  We use their kids toothpaste as well.  They have a wide array of products from oral care, sun care,  hair care and more.  You can find them online at Kiss My Face, Drugstore.com and at many drug and grocery stores nationwide.

No Wallflowers for Ford Just Butterflies

Here in the Washington metro area it is DC Auto Show Week.  Two weeks ago it was the Detroit Auto Show and while I cannot attend my own home town's show I did get to cruise around the auto show floor in Detroit, courtesy of the Ford Motor Company. 

The car and truck of the year were announced here and many automakers unveiled hybrids and other vehicles to woo and entice a green consumer.  From Lexus to Chevy and more everyone it seems was going green.  The Ford company was especially intent on this mission and it was equally clear that this Ford, One Ford, is not the same set of cars and trucks that we have known from the last few decades.  No, this is a fresh start for Ford and it is a good one.

A few months ago I reviewed the Ford Flex Titanium, a car I was determined to hate.  Instead, I fell in love and did not to hand over the keys.  The Flex contains EcoBoost, a technology that is designed to deliver power and torque that is consistent with larger displacement, naturally aspirated engines.  It gives about 20% better fuel efficiency and reduces the engines greenhouse emissions by about 15%.   Ford has loaded EcoBoost into its new Explorer as well. This by the way was the Truck of the Year.  It is roomy like the Flex and offers MyFord Touch and SYNC like the other new Ford vehicles do as well.  Did I mention that the new versions of these cars are chocked full of amazing technology?  They are loaded with integrated communication and entertainment systems that keep you connected and safe while you drive.  I found both very intuitive and not distracting.

In all, I was quite impressed with the strides Ford has made as a company.  They are no longer going to be pushed off the road or left idling.  Each car from the Explorer, Focus, Fiesta, Fusion and Escape Hybrid are streamlined, more luxurious, high tech and more solidly built than they have been in a long time.  Their global vision and mission to promote a brand that is in step with the consumer needs for a higher quality vehicle for their money, Hybrids and EV's, as well as better fuel efficiency is now in full effect.  Consider me stunned and converted.  For now.

Fun Find- Quik Shower

Got a stinky teen?  Maybe it is you that isn't smelling too fresh.  Quik Shower is a portable single-use disposable washcloth that will get you clean and eliminate dirt and odors.  It's great for after gym class, sports or other physical activities. 

I know some people are shower-phobic at the gym or the office locker room.  Perhaps even at school after gym class. Quik Shower just might be the solution to your odor-ridding, say goodbye to sweat needs.  Their effective, green (no emissions like body sprays), compact and versatile (use them at the beach!).  Sized at 10"x12" they are also a good size with a nice fresh scent.  Buy one for a dollar or 100 for $49.  There are various sized packages available.

Fun Green Find- Burt's Bees Fragrance Free

Stuffed into my Christmas stocking was a tube of Burt's Bees newest product- Fragrance Free Body Lotion ($8, 6oz.).  The Shea Butter and Vitamin E version lasts for over 24 hours and soothes my dry, winterized skin.  Yes, already!  I was having the hardest time keeping my hands from drying out until I got this stuff.  There is a Soothingly Sensitive version as well that has Aloe and Buttermilk infused into it.  Each one is fragrance free, hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested.  Full of natural ingredients you'll love it!

Korres Liquid Lipstick

I've seen a lot of lip glosses and lipsticks in my day.  Matte finishes,high gloss shines and everything in between.  Still, I was not prepared for Korres Liquid Lipstick ($22).  The thin, fits in your pocket tube contains a bit of a interesting product. 

The first time I applied the Liquid Lipstick I was surprised by the texture and subtle shine.  Just like the website says there is a cooling feeling upon application.  This water-based liquid lipstick contains line-smoothing, antioxidant Raspberry & Pomegranate extracts that help to protect against free-radical damage.  In turn it smooths lip lines creating a softer lip.  It has a light, creamy texture to it that lasts longer than many glosses and the color is true.  I received the Nude Beige color and loved it alone or with a touch of pink gloss. Certified Organic Acai Palm Pulp Oil  is included to help moisturize and soothe your lips while helping to create that long-lasting, creamy texture. Korres Liquid Lipstick is available in five, high pigment shades-Nude Beige, Berry, Natural, Fuchsia and Red.  It is Paraben, sulfate, GMO and triclosan free and contains no synthetic frangrances either.  You have to love that! It won't dry your lips either.  Each one is great for every day wear and fits easily in your purse, tote or pocket.

So true.  We received one SIGG kid water bottle ($19.99) in black with a pink cap and Kuromi design.  The easy twist and drink spout sealed well even after repeated dishwasher washings (NO LEAKS!) and it only took a few times for my preschool age daughter to learn how to open it.  The flip top cap keeps the drinking spout clean and the size is great for hydrating kids and for their small hands to grasp onto and tote around.  She stuck it in her car seat cup holder, put it in her back pack and found that it fit into most bag cup holders that she owns.  The cute Kuromi rabbit design was perfect for her. She loves using it and having her own water bottle now that seems more big kid than the sippy cups her toddler-age sister uses.  It has survived many falls onto the pavement and sidewalk to this past summer and so far not a scratch. I love this water bottle!

Teagan & Mack Baby Clothing

Teagan and Mack, a stylish and eco-friendly baby clothing line recently sent my newest baby a onesie to review. Using organic cotton and eco-friendly dyes Teagan and Mack is a woman-owned company created by Lisa Cratty, a mother of two little girls, who wanted to change the way people purchase clothing.   

Teagan and Mack baby clothing is made from 100% organic cotton.  Prices range from $8-38, making it affordable and the new online store offers everything from clothing to burp cloths, hats and even handmade bracelets (made in Louisville, CO).  The company strives to raise awareness on the harmful environmental impact the fashion industry has created on our health and the planets health.   Teagan and Mack promotes environmental preservation and socially responsible business practices while reducing its carbon footprint as well.          

The onesie ($20) they sent was so sweet.  In oatmeal with pink trim I found it to be incredibly soft to the touch.  It was warm and cozy on my baby too.  The sizes are true and fit my long-torsoed little girl quite well.  It washed without shrinking and didn't show wear or fading after repeated wearings.  It has adorable faux sleeves that make quite a cute fashion statement too. 

Teagan and Mack clothes are soft, very wearable and cute to boot.  The company has a very strong sense of earth-friendly practices which make it a smart eco-minded choice. I highly recommend checking them out for your next clothing or gift purchase.

Pomi Tomato Products

From Boschi comes Pomi Tomato products- the BPA-free alternative to canned tomatoes.  I received two boxes of Pomi items.  One 26 ounce box of strained tomatoes the other a 26 ounce box of chopped tomatoes. I cannot tell you enough how handy these were.   I placed them on my pantry shelf and within a week both were used when I realized I needed sauce or chopped tomatoes in a recipe and I had forgotten to buy the canned version. 

In the past I have always bought the canned version when I needed it.  I hated the idea of the BPA leaking into my food but the alternative in a jar was so much more expensive that I just couldn't go that route.  We try to be organic, safe and green in so many other areas in our lives but sometimes the budget wins out.  Not anymore! Pomi makes it affordable.  At about $3 a box I can get more than one use out of each container and store the rest for later.  I know that there are no preservatives inside and it is just pure, wonderfully tasting tomato!  No water or citric acid is added. Nothing.  It's the best deal money can buy and a great tasting, feel good product.  I am in love with Pomi.  Thankfully my local grocery store is too.  Available in grocery stores nationwide and at Amazon.

Infantino EcoSash Wrap & Tie Carrier

Infantino recently sent me a new baby carrier, the ECOSASH Wrap & Tie Carrier ($59.99).  Designed to be stylish and comfortable the ECOSASH has a nice natural feel to it with a form-fitting design that feels snug but not tight.  It is adjustable, with three carrying positions- front, back and sides and can be altered to suit your needs as your baby grows. 

I loved the soft fabric and detachable hood.  Unlike some carriers that either have a hood or one that isn't removable the ECOSASH by Infantino has a hood that is easy to put on or take off and the whole carrier can be washed in a mesh washing machine bag that Infantino provides.  That makes life so simple, especially when the baby is a young one who is prone to spitting up on every accessory I own.  The carrier didn't shrink or change shape after washing either.  You can watch a demo here.

The iGo Charge Anywhere

The iGo charger ($49.99) is one of the best gadgets I have come across in quite some time.  It can go anywhere and be used to charge more than one item at a time.  It reduces standby power up to 85% which saves time and money too.  The iGo charger works as a wall charger while simultaneously charging itself.  It's quite amazing.  Its integrated battery can then be used to charge items like cell phones, mobile electronics and gaming devices all on its own without being plugged into a wall. 

The iGo has two USB outports (perfect for charging my Blackberry and my husband's all at the same time) and a long USB charging cable (6ft) that works well for travel.  I love how long the cable is, especially in hotel rooms when outlets are not always abundant.  This charger (2.28 x 2.52 x 1.46") is also incredibly lightweight and has foldable wall blades that make storing it in a bag, glove box, or anywhere really easy.  Tips for different devices are available and are easy to plug in or out as well.  It's just a neat, little package all around. 

Recently I have taken it with me to charge my phone in airports, hotels and in my car.  When we went to the beach this summer I didn't have to leave my phone behind if it wasn't fully charged because I just stuck the iGo in my beach bag and charged my phone while at the beach.  It was the perfect set-up.  It also seemed to charge my phone fully in half the time it takes when it is normally plugged into the wall on a standard charger.  I love that! 


The iGo charger is available for netbooks, laptops, cameras, gps systems and many other devices. It is compatible with almost any brand as well.  It's affordable and green. I simply love my iGo!

Tonic Organic Hair Care

Summer is almost here and with it comes a host of outdoor activities in the water and sun. All things that are fun to be sure but can also do a number on your hair.  Tonic Organic Hair Care is a great way to fight those hair stressors because it is specifically made for those who lead active outdoor lifestyles.

My household tried the Leave-In Conditioner, Threesome Tonic and Chronic Tonic.  Developed by surfer Lauren Otonicar these products are organic and environmentally-friendly. Tonic products are completely non-toxic, never tested on animals, and free of parabens and sulfate as well.

My husband found the Threesome Tonic (an all-in-one shampoo, conditioner and body wash) to be minty fresh. It cleaned his hair and body well and left a slight tingly feeling all over.  He smelled minty fresh too.  At $12 for an 8 ounce bottle it is more than he would want to spend on a product and unfortunately the bottle broke apart when he first tried to open it.  It then exploded all over the shower. I know that is not typical, but it was frustrating and it didn't leave a lot of product left for him or I to use.  He thought it cleaned well enough but didn't impress him or I enough to use it again.  Having an all-in-one product is very appealing to some people though and it's worth a try.

The Leave-In Conditioner Mist a.k.a. LusterTonic ($14, 8 oz) works great on my daughter's super curly and often dry hair.  It can be applied on wet or dry hair, which I love because it's great for after bath wet hair and then refreshes her hair while moisturizing and detangling the next day when it is dry.  What I found so amazing about this particular leave-in conditioner is how fast it worked as a detangler in her dry hair.  It sprays out in a mist that is quite visible on the hair.  Yet, I could quickly comb through her hair with incredible ease in ways I have never been able to do with her other detanglers.  There were less tears too. Who isn't a fan of that?

Tonic's ChronicTonic Conditioner ($14, 8 oz, shampoo is the same price) actually showed results on my color-treated hair the first time I used it.  I was in desperate need of a hair cut and used the ChronicTonic daily instead of my normal organic conditioner.  It's thick enough to hold onto my hair and fortify it but lightweight enough that it rinses clean without leaving a residue.  My hair, which is fine, was easy to comb through and always blew dry shiny and smooth in a way my other green conditioner failed in.  I was quite pleased and a bit surprised.  It really does work well on stressed, beaten-down hair.  I now use it daily with a break for a deep conditioning mask twice a week and have noticed a difference in the texture of my fine hair.  Bring it on summer! I dare you to mess with my locks now.

I have reviewed toothbrushes in the past, mainly the electric variety.  All of them plastic, even if it's recycled.  Radius Source Toothbrush  are made from something entirely different.  Money.  Dollar bills y'all.  Made from recycled dollar bills, flax fiber or wood Radius Source toothbrushes last longer than your average toothbrush.  Here's the rundown directly from the source-

I admit that for some bizarre reason I thought that this brush wouldn't be durable.  Instead of lasting longer I felt like it would disintegrate in my hands as soon as it got wet. I know, it's ridiculous.  The handle feels just like plastic and it's comfortable in my hand as well.  The actual head/brush threw me off as well.  It's shaped like an iron.  I have a small mouth and I didn't think it would work.  Turns out, I LOVE it! I actually feel like this shape head was designed for my mouth.  My teeth, gums and tongue feel cleaner than they have using the standard narrow head.  I'm super excited that my pack came with a replacement head as well. 

I love that this toothbrush is eco-friendly in packaging and product and it really works.  The Source Radius Toothbrush is fun (it's made from money!), works superbly and lasts a long time (9 months).  The replaceable heads (about $4 for 2) and price are affordable too ($5.21). I don't want to switch toothbrushes ever again.  I'm now a Radius convert.
